If you’ve been thinking of moving but aren’t quite sure if it’s right for you, sometimes you need someone to spout off some good things about your potential new spot to push you over the edge.

It’s Centrally Located
When we say that Virginia is a Southern state, we mean that it’s more of a northern Southern state if that makes sense. Virginia is by no means a state of the Deep South. In fact, it’s probably fair to say that it’s centrally located between North and South.
With West Virginia over there and Washington, DC, up there and the Carolinas just over there, you’re not all that far from other states where you might have remaining family and friends. Even Pennsylvania and the whole Tri-State area isn’t too terribly far, even to drive.
So you certainly will not be isolated down in Virginia.
It Has Areas for All Kinds
Virginia is fairly large as states go, and what’s lovely is that it has busy cities if that’s your thing, but those are located pretty much right alongside farmland, countryside, and the Appalachian Mountains.
You can head to a city such as Richmond or Charlottesville to experience everything you’d expect to find in a metropolis, from restaurants and bars to museums and plenty of other things to do. But you can also then head out for a hike in the woods or a pleasant drive through the countryside.
That’s Virginia for you, and it’s all waiting for you right now.
There’s Lots of History to Explore
Finally, for history lovers, Virginia is a state full of American history. It’s where the English first settled, in Jamestown, in the early 1600s. It’s the land where four of the first five US presidents were born. You can go there to visit George Washington’s historic home in Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Albemarle County.
Virginia is also the state where the Confederacy made its capital (Richmond) during the American Civil War.
From these living-history sites to the museums of American history you’ll find there, Virginia is a state for learning all about the United States, as well as the indigenous people who were there before any Europeans.
